What's New in my Makeup World?

It's been a while, has it not? I feel like I was on such a blogging roll, but necessity dictated a little bit of a break. Still, I collected some talking points on the way that I do want to share with you:

1.) I've been super neutral lately. Not that there's anything wrong with that. One shade that really has inspired this spate of neutral looks is L'Oreal's Goldmine, a long-discontinued shade from their Infallible line that I feel, rivals the sheen and delicacy of higher-end brands. I repressed it into a pan, and this is what it looks like:

In terms of matte colors I have really been favoring, all of my looks this week have been featuring the shade Toasted from Clionadh cosmetics. Toasted is a good name for it, as it is quite brown and warm.

2.) After much deliberation, I bought the updated version of the Menagerie Cosmetics Feral Palette. For reference, this is what it looks like:

3.) I also bought the new body mist from Sol de Janeiro in the scent Coco Cabana. It smells like marshmallows and I am here for it. I have been wearing it for three days in a row now.

4.) I have also been using the new mascara from L'Oreal, the Unlimited Mascara, in Brown Black. Though it is a bit gimmicky, I have to say I do like that I can control the angle of the brush, and I do like how it brushes through my lashes. I don't have an official review, but I do like the mascara so far.

5.) I have been watching the tutorials of Regina/Picturresque, and I quite like some of the techniques she uses. She tends to not apply anything directly to her face with an applicator- it's with the brush or fingers. I tried to do that today and will continue to do so.

6.) New Makeup Releases? I am not impressed by what little I have seen from the new Rebel Rose collection from Wet 'n Wild. The colors look boring to me, unfortunately. I also think the new palette Dominique Cosmetics is sneak-peaking is a face palette. We'll see if I'm proven correct.

Also, we're seeing a surge in pink highlighters- which of course I am all for. Melt is coming out with two, which I will probably steer away from as they run pretty high in price. Fenty is also coming out with one called Wattabrat, which I am also appreciating from afar for that same reason.

3 Looks of the Week: Shimmer and Dark Mattes

I am not going to call myself an ABH stan. I own none of their face or lip products, and only (~oNlY) three of their eyeshadow palettes. But the reason I have three is because I just like the composition of their palettes.

Color-scheme wise, I think the ABH is super usable, and that colors are selected and grouped in very intentional and useful ways. This makes it a pleasure to use the palettes, and a reason I think I stuck to the Modern Renaissance and Norvina palettes- mostly- this week.

If my eyeliner looks weird this week there is very good reason- I am using the Mac eyeliner pot in Blacktrack, and am trying to get the hang of it.

Look One:

Incense in the crease, Volatile on lid, crease, and outer corner, Dazzling on 2/4 of inner lid, and Dazzling on center.

After the entire day passed, I came home and decided Dazzling should have been on the rest of the lid:

Wednesday:

Reds from the Maybelline Matte Bar and Modern Renaissance. Lid was Norvina Rose Gold. 

Thursday:

Basically the same combination of mattes, just less pink.  The lid was a combination of Looxi's Bohemian on the inner 2/4, and then Flamethrower, a copper-pink duochrome from LoveLuxeBeauty. 

Thoughts:

This week I definitely embraced the darker warm mattes, especially red. I really like how it brings out the green in my eyes. I think this weekend I am going to avoid wearing mascara because I did feel like my lashes were a bit more difficult this week.

Wet 'n Wild Color Icon Blush in Blazen Berry: Swatches and Review

I believe this a new color offering from Wet 'n Wild. When I saw it at Walgreen's the other day, I was struck by how unique it looked. Clearly, it was berry-toned, but also a brick-red color? And shimmery? I knew that I had never used anything like it before, so for $2.49, I picked it up.

Let's look at some pictures!

The formula is really nice. Though it is shimmery and soft, it is not "wet" feeling, and very easy to blend. I don't even mind the little brush.

 We have a heavy finger swatch. In the picture below it is also blended out.

I was really struck at how the shimmer sheer out with the color, and how it was sheer but in a good way.

This is a really nice blush to also pair with highlighter.  In the picture below, I basically went ham and draped it all over my face, and then just applied Mac Snowflushed on top to see what would happen.

I don't hate it.

I have also been wearing this blush to work, but not in such a crazy way. It is quite easy to apply and I do feel it lasts a long time. Even though I am fair and have cool-toned skin, I think the blush works well on me. I think it also brings out the green tones in my eyes. 

I would highly recommend this blush and I think Wet 'n Wild introduced such a cool color and finish to their line.

My Small Nabla Collection and Swatches

Good evening!

I don't have much in the way of new product reviews, but I do want to talk about some eyeshadows in my collection from the Italian company, Nabla. Though shipping is a bit pricey, packages from Nabla arrive pretty quickly for me, within three days, which is really impressive.

Here is what I have in the way of eyeshadows. Prices differs, but each pan contains 2.5 g of product.

• Lotus: A cool-toned purple-pink, matte. Perfect if you have a hankering for the vibe of the recently released CP It's My Pleasure Palette, but you don't want to get the whole palette. This matte is quite soft, but not wet feeling, and blends very easily. 7.90 euros. 
• City Wolf: A cool-toned matte grey. Not as soft as Lotus, but also easy to work with. 6.50 euros.
• Calypso: This is my personal version of a purple shimmer- not too cool and not too warm.  7.90 euros. 
• Millennium: An iridescent with a super sheer, slightly grey base, and red-pink shift. This is best used as a face power for an iridescent pink shine. It doesn't get too glimmery and it does not show texture. I do not use this as an eyeshadow. 6.50 euros. 

On to the swatches!

 I love all of these shadows. The mattes are smooth but not too soft, and build up and blend really nicely. The shimmers aren't chunky, but very pretty.

My last item from Nabla is my newest purchase, and one that I am very happy with. I bought it on the recommendation of one of my favorite beauty bloggers, Killer Colours (aka Viola Holmgren). She had recommended the Glow Trip Highlighter in the shade Divinizer. 

Divinizer contains 6.5 g of product and cost 18 euros, or $23.00. 

Aside from the beautiful design of the product, you may ask what is so special about this powder. Well, it truly has a mirrored effect on the skin, and a cool pink shift. Of course, pictures are hard to capture. And it lasts the whole work day.

But if you are a super makeup nerd, and love the powder Snowflushed from Mac, but wish there were other ways to wear it without so much glitter, look no further. Divinzer is Snowflushed's smoother, cooler-toned sister.

I am quite pleased with all my Nabla products and find that I buy from them at such a sporadic pace that the high shipping fee does not really bother me. I do think Nabla's formulas and finishes are basically everything I am looking for when it comes to eye and face powders.

Today's Eye Look: Orange and Brown

Today's eye look was the result of four shades:

•   Dawn, from the Subculture Palette
• New Wave, from the Subculture Palette
• Toasted from Clionadh Cosmetics
• Boujee, from Looxi on the lid

Basically, I love New Wave as a shade. It is the perfect "Mac 'n Cheese" yellow-orange. I do agree that the shades from the palette are trickier to blend. You can see how the brown matte on my outer corner, Toasted, is hardly blended with the orange.

On the lid is Boujee, from Looxi Cosmetics. I think this was a good choice because the warm gold matches the other colors, but this shadow has a blue shift, which complements the warm tones nicely. The shift is hard to make out on camera. 

Lastly, I was using a relatively new product. I am trying to get the hang of gel liners, because even though the brush tip eyeliners have been my HG, especially from Physicians Formula, I am getting bored with them, and getting frustrated with how easily I go through them. So I bought Mac's Black Track gel eyeliner pot. I am not sure I am using the best brush, but I do feel like I have more control with the product, so I am eager to keep using it on my eyes. I like the wear time, but I am not sure how I feel yet about the formula.

I went with a brighter, warmer look today, because I was mostly wearing pastel cool tones- blue and grey.  If I don't "plan" a look ahead of time, usually I just try to have it complement whatever I am wearing. Tomorrow I might wear a darker blue or black, so my eyes might be pink or purple. Maybe. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
